We arrived back in the states mid June for our first R&R. It was so nice seeing family and friends in D.C. and Virginia. We saw new babies, family and got to spend sweet time with our friends telling them about all of our adventures. It was so nice catching up in person…I am a much better in person friend. Corey has the gift of keeping up with everyone no matter where he is. I find it so much easier to connect when we are face to face. I thank God for this time that we have in the states. The kids have loved eating out at all the delicious places. We went from D.C. to Dallas to East Texas to Central Texas. The kids had good eye appointments. I have always been so thankful for our eye doctor in the Dallas area. He has taken such good care of my kids. I was reminded at this visit that it is such a blessing to have good medical care. We have seen the worst kind of medical care in Mauritania (not at the Embassy, we have the sweetest medical team — Erna pictured above has been such a blessing to our family). We have seen God show up in big ways when we met someone who could not see, who was able to get glasses and views the world in a whole new way. Glory be to God!

I wanted to give an update on Marcel. God continues to pour His blessings on this family and words cannot express what a joy it is to see Him move in this little boys life. Marcel’s grandfather is an inspiration to us all. He continues to spread the gospel throughout a nation who does not want to hear the name of Jesus. I am amazed at his faith and resilience. I will never forget this man. He has become a precious friend of mine and I will do all I can to help him. Marcel is strong because he has seen his grandfather, mother and father trust in God. Many doctors I have talked to said Marcel will have a hard time, if even possible, walking without crutches. I have cried many times about this because it is not what I wanted. I have had many conversations with God and He assured me that His way is better and only He can help Marcel. God has showed us a miracle. He is the reason Marcel is walking with no crutches!

It has been like living in two worlds since we have been back. I miss the people God has given me in Mauritania and I love spending time with the people He has given me here. Thank goodness for the ability to keep in touch! Marcels grandfather wrote last week, “ We are not from the same nation, not having the same color, and not the same language but the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has brought us into the same kingdom and makes us become one.” What beautiful words that I pray God uses to lead my family. I thank God for bringing us to Mauritania and letting us see people who know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God will come through for them. May we all have a faith like Marcels grandfather. Please continue to pray for him. He is faced with many challenges both financial and safety. May God continue to protect him all the days of his life.
